Canon USM L lenses with adapters?

Just wondering if there is a trick to use Canon USM L lenses with adapters, because they don't manually stop down, right? One like this:

I am contemplating moving up to these for stills but would hope that I could also use them on the HVX with adapters, any suggestions?

You can do it with an EOS camera. Set the aperture while lens on cemara and press that little exposure preview button just bellow the lens and while pressing, remove the lens. The aperture will be locked.

Hunh, that's not bad for the lens, as far as you know, or the camera body? Cool.

Supposedly any time now, Redrock is supposed to come out with something called "Live Lens" for the new M2E with the EOS mount. It will allow you to control the aperture on EF series lenses, by providing the right computer signals into the lens connections. Pricey, but cool.
