Canon user thread - post your pictures here

Oh! That's Tom from Reduser... I've seen the site. It made me look for the hack for my Powershot so I can shoot timelapses.

I am hoping that it is a real picture, that's what I want it to be.
I guess you also need a clean high ISO so your exposure time isn't that long or you get trails instead of specs... but the size of that picture makes it hard to see how long the exposure time must have been... I really wish I could hear how to do that... it looks like a freaggin Hubble shot. lol

That's why you would want to use a Sony A700 or A900. But I won't mention that in the Canon thread. :)

Right on with the Hubble shot comment.

I stopped by a store today and played with a couple of DSLRs... I want one... :(

Not that I am not happy with my purchase... at $225 about a year and a half ago my A630 shoots some nice pictures... but I want the control! I want to be able to use wheels rings toggles and big buttons... I would learn so much faster that way... and photography is about capturing a moment as it happenED... so control is king. :)

And reflexs are a great way of improving compostion, framing and other cinematography abilities!

YES MAN! Exactly what I am thinking about! The more I shoot with my little powershot in manual mode the more I learn... that's why I am keen on getting a D90 for the S35 sized sensor... sharing glass and getting used to the S35 DoF, etc...

I feel like I am totally spamming this thread with my Powershot :)

These were close to mid day and hand held so no bracketing, hence the dark washed out exposure on the first to try to keep the highs within range. I should have shot them RAW but I keep forgetting, probably cause the menus for the hack are way more cumbersome than the normal menus...

Ah, nothing wrong with a P&S. Everyone I know that has an SLR keeps their P&S and still uses it. Esp if they shoot professionally. Get's old carrying that thing around all the time. And everyone knows its not the arrows......ah, I won't even say it.

You got some good stuff there with your P&S. Don't feel like you have to upgrade. Oh yeah, and if you want to upgrade for cheap....go get a film SLR and shoot manual for a while. You want to talk about learning.....that will get ya going. And nothing really ever beats the feeling of getting back 35mm slides and sitting in the dark looking at 4 foot images on a sheet! :D

I don't think I have the balls to shoot film.. or the budget... though it would slow me down and make me look harder. :)

I do want however to have the control... there are so many pictures I miss because I can't focus without going into a menu... it LITERALLY takes me about 5 seconds minimum to get my focus to infinity, and it is nearly impossible to know I got it set right... so frustrating.

Alwayslearning right, a blue LED is exactly what it is. Actually I ran out of lights and all I had was a lighted base that wasn't the right color temperature. This is just a rough draft for a wallpaper that will have some caption text for my job, so I will definitly try to correct that now that you pointed out that its distracting.

maybe it would look nice if you cut out the dark areas in the inside of the palms and made them match the overexposed areas... perhaps a bit more on the top outline of the fingers

I agree with you US latin. In fact I already played with the lighting tons in photoshop to make the inside of the palms lighter than the outside of the hands. The problem is that there were shadows on the hands so to make it all uniform would be a little too painstaking for what my job is paying me...plus I don't think they care ot pay me to be so specific.

What I am considering doing though is making the bottom hand look like as if it is a reflection of the top (like a mirror surface) but obviously the reflection isn't meant to be realistic.

I'm also seeing that on my latop the blacks are a lot more open than the computer I was editing my photo on. On the original monitor, the inside palms looked a lot more prounounced lighting because the outside of the hands were so dark and fading into the background.

YAY RAW files....

This is at the Guggenheim Museum. In the original the whole block of lights were COMPLETELY white... Went back to the RAW, and ALL the data was there... amazing...
