Canon user thread - post your pictures here

phillip, nice shots. I'm picking up a 50mm this week or next I think. I like those shoes too. Classy choice.

thanks kegan. i wonder how you could survive so long without the 50 mm.

the shoes - they are so damn comfortable, i really like them. not least because they are from bugatti. quite cool. :D

Kegan...you have been wanting this lens for a long, long time. Its
insanely a good deal. It's performance is incredible considering how affordable it is. Post pics when you get it.

I love these! Especially the second one!

Hey strancali, thanks! That second one you mentioned (Eagle Falls) is in the Outdoor Photographer Magazine 2009 calendar (ironically for the month of October when this was a spring runoff shot, ha!). If you click the link and click the calendar you can see it under October.

I was blessed to have that first image (the kayaking one) published in National Geographic Adventure magazine full page, and the last one (McWay Falls) is scheduled to be in Outdoor Photographer Magazine in spring 2009. I say this with humble excitement, not bragging by any means.

I'm just hoping I can transfer what I've learned in still photography over into the realm of videography and shoot both successfully. We'll see!

what do you guys think about this one?

toom uhc post processing for my taste. if you took it on film., scratched the film, printed in sepia, then toned it red.... it would look more organic. this look a touch artificial. im sure the origional image was amazing... Bugatti's are incredible machines.

Thats to much distortion on the bridge for my taste. It almost looks as its experiencing a earthquake..

Here's my submission:

Timur, is that an HDR image, or was it just doctored in Photoshop? I like it, but I was just curious.

I'm not thinking that it's not HDR or that it has a lot of PS done. Looks nice and organic to me. Overall beautiful shot. Print large and hang high!

No HDR straight out of camera. i rarely doctor images.

nailing your exposure is the key. its also the secret to getting grain free images from the HVX.

Question about Auto-Focus.

I can't seem to get the manual focus as sharp as the auto focus does. I've tried several test shots side by side, and auto focus wins. I 've tried adjusting the dioptric to focus the auto focus squares as suggested in the users manual. It looks in focus, but when I see the output, it's slightly out of focus. Not so with the auto focus. It seems to always be sharper.

Anyone else find this? Any suggestions to help manual focus? Rebel Xti (Geez, I used the word "focus" 10 times, er...now 11)

Oh, man, congratulations. It looks great in the calender. I remember when you posted that shot on Flickr. I thought it was absolutely fantastic.

Ever been out to a place in the lower Sierras called Monache Meadows? I was out there last weekend and really enjoyed it. If you take the Jeep road out there in the middle of the week it's pretty far removed from everyone, with some nice shooting opportunities - rivers, meadows, mountains, etc. Even cows. haha.

A fishing expose'.

EDIT: If you've ever went Mahi Mahi fishing you would know they fight like crazy, jump out of the water incessantly and are beautiful. Unfortunately, the best photo I got didn't get a face/head shot. I put it on the "expose" which is number 4 above. But, a bigger version of that shot...

It just goes to show how shallow the DOF on 35mm lenses are.... im talking milimeters. infact on a 5D at about 8 feet, with a 50mm F1.4 @1.4 im still choosing whether the eyes or nose are in focus.....

How would I shoot a low-light event with some movement (ex. restaurant or bar) with a 5D without a flash or a tripod?

I'm using a 24-70mm f/2.4 and a 70-200mm f/2.4. I like to shoot at f/8.

I notice the 5D gets grainy around ISO 250. I did some side-by-side shots with a tripod.

Perhaps there is an Aperture or PS Plug-in to eliminate digital noise introduced by higher ISO settings.
