I'm currently shooting a project with a canon t4i and the biggest improvement I'd like to see is fix the moire. I've gotten a few shots with moire from fine clothing weave, a hat, a suit jacket. It's not everywhere you can conjigger everything around to get rid of it but on this shoot I don't have time for that so I just have to live with it. Director is ok with it, but I hate it when there's moire.

Coming from a T2i owner. BOOOOO CANON BOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! *Throws tomato at Canon's top guys* So tired of those "updated" models with micro improvements in order to keep selling basically the same damn camera with a higher price tag. That low light better be GREATLY improved for video or it's a waste of time.

Time to switch to a Nikon D7100 or the GH3. I'm quickly losing faith in Canon for DSLR video.

it's been like this since the T2i...I'm surprised they come out with a new one every single year..must be a nice selling product

This is pretty much the way I'm thinking about Canon now. I was looking at getting a T4i to replace my existing T2i and found that the continuous AF offered by the T4i simply wasn't good enough to make it worth my while to spend the money needed to buy a new camera. I also noticed that the the overall build quality of the T4i (it feels very plasticky) doesn't match that of the T2i. The optical viewfinder of the T4i is also somewhat smaller than the T2i.

I've used both and I have to say the articulated view finder of the t4i is very handy and makes shooting a lot easier. The autofocus is crap and completely unusuable. I turned it off immediately because it kept hunting for focus.

Why anyone would want to shell out for 4+ year old tech is beyond me. If Nikon repackaged the D90 and called it the D100 would you buy it? Of-course not.

BUT THE SCREEN WIGGLES NOW!!!

Sigh. I used to love Canon. Now, not so much.

I own a T2i and there are two feature in the T3i - which is now great value for money as they are being dumped on the market - I wish I had: the articulating screen and the 3x zoom in video zoom while retaining full hd resolution.
So I 'd say the T3i was a real upgrade; the T4i and T5i are money makers for Canon but not for the consumer! (Though in itself it is a great camera, of course)

I agree, the T3i is the real value leader of them all.

I still recommend the T2i because of Magic Lantern's audio support. The t2i and 60d used the same audio chip as the 5DmII, which is well understood and allows full manual control of audio functions including monitoring in real time via headphones for those run-and-gun moments. The T3i switched to a new chip, and although gave "manual" audio levels to the user, it doesn't really give the control and options that ML grants.

Since Magic Lantern is one of the only reasons I still occasionally shoot with a Canon DSLR personally, I stand behind the t2i as the best value.

I also think T3i was a big improvement over the previous models and I ll never understand why Canon didnt include the 3x crop mode to the next models. Im using a lot more my T3i/600D than my 60D only because of the 3x option.
However I think M. Gilden has a good point about the audio chip of T3i not giving the ability to control sound through ML.
Except that, I have noticed that the audio of T3i is somehow compressed and not as clean as the 60D or 7D for example...

Yes, the T3i was an improvement over the T2i. But by that measure, the NEX-5N and the D5200 are HUGE improvements on any current APS-C Canon DSLR.
It's not that Canon has made no improvements at all, it's just that the rest of the world has moved on much faster than them, and they've fallen behind.

I guess you re right Samuel...it is just a little difficult for someone using Canons for some years and have invested in lenses, batteries, grips etc to change brand...thats why we were hoping for something better from Canon...

He he Canon is expecting that we will buy their 8 bit wonders C100 or C300. :thumbdown

I will switch to GH3 or Nikon D5200.

I have to agree with many posters here, I will not be buying Canon till there is somthing worth buying. My 550d still works for me even with a over heating. Canon are resting on their ass and before they open their eyes, they have fallen behind the rest, you only as good as the last good product you made.

High DR is the next big step, and BMCC has taken it. Hopefully once they are shipping in large enough numbers, Canon see the effect on their bottom line and move forward. They still don't have clean full 1080 HDMI yet do they? I had it on my HV20.
