Canon t4i full specs are in

Well, they added AF in video mode which is great if it's usable. It appears that they beefed up the video features but no headphone jack! So the 5DIII has a headphone jack and no AF or flip screen, and the T4i has AF, flip screen and no headphone jack. Seriously! I swear, Canon's just %##$ing with me.

and there's no mention of IPB and all-I... and the bitrates they give match the old H.264 codec...
I'm not ready to pay $3500 for what the 5D3 is offering right now; I had convinced myself that a 650D with same sensor but no aliasing/moire was worth the cheap-ish upgrade; now I really have to see some reviews of this, and some comparisons against the D3200...

Reviews? Why do you need to see reviews? ....when they've added such requested features like:

-Background music for slideshows and video playback can be selected.

Thanks for listening, Canon.

This AF in video mode looks promising as in it might actually work:

-Hybrid CMOS AF focusing system * (+ tracking, FlexiZone-Multi, FlexiZone-Single)

How could they put in what looks like a semi serious AF for video and not include a headphone jack? Do they think that feature is seriously high end reserved only for a $3,500 camera?

70D and 7DII will probably have it.

I have to wonder - who is actually showing friends and family slideshows on their SLR? Who asked for that music feature? Most people would want to do some crop/redeye/color adjustments and then order the photos on their own.

I for one will wait for now and go on with the 550D , I am sure Canon has not sorted out the over heating problem , Nice specs but as many of you say missing some features, for now I am leaning more to the Nikon D600 if i should buy.

No aliasing/moire and the new IPB codec would be enough for me to want to upgrade from my current T2i. But I'm not sure those are there, and Canon seems to be on a milking crusade: $950 with the kit lens!! that's 35% more expensive than the D3200 ($700), which should beat this one silly on every IQ measurement in its core market (stills).

Haha they're just having to catch up and compete with mobile phones...

I think Black Magic has a real opportunity this year. If they can come out with a 4/3rds or APS-c camera with upgraded specs in the sensor, the DSLR video market will be a different landscape. Which in the end, isn't that for the best? I would prefer a purpose built video camera for video work. And it would be so refeshing to not have to watch Canon protect their cinema line.

Canon makes great cameras but it is obvious they do not want to lead in the DSLR video segment. Which is fine. I just gave up on wanting them to do it, so I am rooting for Black Magic Design or others.

Agree completely. Consistency is missing. What harm would a headphone jack have added or the addition of other codecs to the rest of their line? It wouldn't.

After watching video on the 4Ti's AF with face tracking ability, it looks quite promising, and to me pushes the 5DIII out of the picture for consideration. The 4Ti's AF could really rock on a steady cam with a person walking toward the cam. The new slower USM motors in the 40mm and the 18-135 seem to be pretty smooth. They have to be reserving the headphone jack for 70D, 7DII with maybe also the codec of the 5DIII. Without this AF and Flip screen, the 5DIII just doesn't seem like a contender for video.

I've got a 7d and hacked GH2. Until Canon increases their DR like Black Magic is doing I see no need to buy another camera from them. Hopefully Black Magic will push the majors to offer more real improvements over their older models.

After the rumored announcement of the Nikon D600 for now that is the route to go imho ,if you see what the Nikon offers ,Nikon has stepped up their game which they have been lacking , if you see some of the features : HDMI output, full frame DSLR, 29min recording hopefully without overheating, Dual SD card slots etc..... It is a better offering than Canon.

For me Canon was innovative with the 5D , and making it affordable for the film maker on a very tight budget the 7d, and 550d , but after that, Canon sat back and rehashed and moved around old technology. Canon is not prepared to listen to the users base which asking for only a few chances.

tweaked to get the in-sensor-plane phase detection in there, but very similar to the old one, it seems
