Canon shutting down Chinese camera factory

I believe most (if not all) of Canon's interchangeable lens cameras are currently made in Japan. This includes DSLRs and mirrorless cameras as well as the Cinema EOS line. And even the higher end compact consumer cameras such as the PowerShot G X models seem to be made in Japan as well these days. It is really only the lower-end point and shoot cameras in the sub-$500 price range, such as the PowerShot ELPH line, that are made in China.

On the camcorder side, the situation is similar, with the professional and prosumer camcorders such as the XF and XA models being made in Japan. And many of the upper end VIXIA models (or LEGRIA in Europe) such as the HF Gxx series are also made in Japan (many of these are similar to the XA camcorders, but without the XLR handle). So it's mostly only the less expensive (under $500) Canon VIXIA camcorders, such as the HF Rxx models, that were made in China.

I think two of the main Canon manufacturing plants in Japan for cameras and camcorders are the Nagasaki and Miyazaki facilities mentioned toward the bottom of this page:

On the lens side of things, most of Canon's higher end lenses, such as the L-series still lenses, CN-E cinema lenses, and B4 mount broadcast lenses are made in Japan (many of these are likely made at the Utsunomiya Plant mentioned in the above page). For the mid-range and less expensive RF mount glass (lenses without the red ring), recent releases seem to be made either in Taiwan or Malaysia.
