Canon Rumors: Canon C300 Mark II will be 4K...

I've held the FS7 and the C300. I never thought the FS7 felt plasticky. I was impressed with the design. The FS7 is worlds better then the C300 for hand-held shooting. That's why I wonder if the C300 replacement might be a shoulder mount design.

Really that's it the C300 is almost perfect apart from the recording options. I think it won't be easy improving that body as a handheld camcorder,

One man's perfect camera is another man's huge pain in the @$$. I own one and think the image is beautiful, but I just wrapped two full days of shooting with mine and I am soooo happy to be shooting the next five days with my 2700. The body design isn't without merit and advantage at times, but my GOD I hate shooting with it 99% of the time for anything other than interviews. I just do not understand the love affair people have with the Cx00 body design. Is it better than a DSLR? Yes it is. But for people like me who have spent their entire careers with cameras that sit on your shoulder and ENG style zoom lenses, the C300(and the like) are maddening. If it wouldn't be like throwing away a mini-ATM, I'd trade mine for an F5/F55.

The C300/C100 ergonomics are much better for handheld Glidecam, lightweight vested Steadicam, gimbal, slider, small jib/crane, and monopod. I rarely do handheld and do primarily run and gun and the difference between a 10 pound decked out camera (FS7) and a 5 pound decked out camera (C100, or about 6 or 7 pounds for the C300) is a very big difference in the weight of support gear needed in addition to just the weight of the cameras. Having the LCD at the back of the camera makes focusing while on any of those devices easier as the LCD is closer to your eyes while it is mounted to the device.

I often carry two C100s around as a one-man-band and am thinking of adding a C300 Mark II to that. Three FS7s would weigh 30 pounds while two C100s and a C300 would weigh 16.5 pounds, which is a huge difference when carrying gear all over the place by yourself.

Finally have a C300 rig that is to die for and am comfortable doing almost anything with it I used to do with a shoulder mount Betacam. It's a mix of parts but the ultimate mod was being able to position and articulate the LCD like an ENG viewfinder. Another benefit is that I can mount it on the left or right side of the camera and still articulate it. The only drawback with S35 cams is less efficiency while operating the lens. Harder to zoom and follow focus than a true ENG lens. I'll take the C300 battery life and weight any day.

The Cx00 body design is the biggest piece of garbage. ever. smote. upon. operators. period. ever.

Makes a RED look like Scarlett Johansson.

It only works if you are on a set of sticks at chest level.

Will it still records onboard in 8 bit only?
Probably, so you can continue watching ALL that content on TV that you see. The amount of C300 material one watches in a week without even knowing it is mind blowing. 8 bits and all....

So what´s better...?
E.g., I´ve seen a lot of shoots lately (Fashion/Sports), where people just run around with a bare Scarlet with side handle and flip-up LCD on top.

That´s basically mimicking the C-series design - MINUS the EVF as another contact point and MINUS the flexibility of the C300's LCD.
I still believe the C300 form factor is the best compromise for documentary style work, where small footprint/low-profile/weight/functional bottom layout are of concern.
The C100`s body is less ideal than its bigger brother, but also lighter and with the upgraded EVF, it will get better.
For ENG style, hand held interviews, most off-shoulder cameras no matter what brand become tiering to the arms, so if that's your bread and butter,
just get a rig as with any other camera.
