Canon remote zoom control with Fujinon lens

I have an old Canon Grip Z9 zoom controller that still works fine on my Canon lens. I'd heard that Canon & Fujinon accessories are compatible. But when connected to the stock Fujinon that came with my HPX300 the Z9's record button works fine, but the zoom out control instead zooms in and the zoom in does nothing. Has anyone else had a similar problem? It seems like a pin mismatch or something that an adapter could solve but I haven't heard of any.

Same problem

Same problem

Hi there, I'm experiencing the same issue and am curious if you had resolved the problem. Hope all is well. Thanks!

Yes, it is simply a different pin assignment. I don't have my old lenses and controllers anymore, so I can't research exactly which pin was different.

Someone who has both controllers could use a meter to document exactly which pin goes where. I should have done this back in the day and posted it on my website.

Hi, you need to swap the wire going to pin A with the wire going to pin B. You can add a switch in the remote control to make it "switchable" Fujinon - Canon.
This if you have a Fujinon lens with 8 pin zoom connector. If the lens has a 12 pin connector, you will need also an adapter cable.

FURTHER TESTING: I modified a Canon zoom control to use with Fujinon lens and zooming was "inverted".
This is the right way to do it:

Canon Fujinon
A -> C
B -> A
C -> B

Hey, thanks for that very helpful info. You'd think there would be a simple adapter to do that, but of course it's not a big market segment.
Why can't lens companies just get along?

Ok, an adpater like that will work, but why pay 100 $ when you can do it with a 3 $ switch and 1 hour work ?
And you will not have to remember to take the adapter with you, and worry about loosing it.....

does anyone know the difference between the FMM-6A and FMM-6B focus gear boxes? I'm trying to get the canon focus controls onto my fujinon lens with the zoom control.
Thanks

diggin this old thread out for a hot second... phde99, do you have a link to where you found that diagram? i'm trying to find the diagram for the 8 pin connector.

cheers,

It's hard to fine the pinout diagram but with simple modifiction on wires at lever button the Canon Zomm remote will work like charm on Fujinon lenses, even the newest one like PMW320K kit. See the photo below. canon_zoom_lever_config.jpg

The old FM12 Canon Focus Inlet can be adapted to fit on new Fujinon Lenses. The mod is a bit difcult ahd requires to disasemble the unit, invert the gear that go on lens focus ring and and a lot of craftwork with Dremel to cut all around the bords of gearbox to prevent interferences with zomm ring and second focus gear (on lenses with auto/manual slide focus control. The fix bolt screw fits on both lenses, but it's necessary to use a spacer 2 mm tick between the gearbox base and lens mount surface. I recommend only guys with skills with Dremel and late habilities to do the hack. I made 2 units and they worked very well on Fujinon lenses. IMG_0180.jpg IMG_0179.jpgIMG_0178.jpg
