Canon MOD file. No audio when imported into timeline

I have no idea how to resolve this and it seems others have the same issue.

I transfer MOD files from my canon into my NLE file bin. I manually convert files to avi becuase MOD files will not play. But I only get video. Audio is nonexistent when clip is played in time line. Audio plays fine when clips run through media player, just not in the time line.

How do convert or get audio? I use a PC and speededit software.

I have no idea about the MOD files you are talking about. Do you mean "MOV"?

But I do get your point that you are trying to use AVI as the intermediate format to bridge your raw video footage and your NLE. My suggestion is: don't use AVI, regardless what you meant to say by "MOD." AVI is a very old container format: out there for about a couple of decades by now. It has serious limitations. And it's a waste of time trying to work around the limitations. I'd suggest that you try different, newer formats until you find the one acceptable to you and your NLE.

You said you "manually convert files" to convert your MOD(?) to AVI. How exactly are you doing that? What software are you using to do the converson?
