Canon Hg10 and depth of field

The camera seems to have little control over the depth of field, how do you go about changing this? i've read about 35mm dof adapters but I am not exactly sure what they are, this camera has a thread of 43mm, is it possible to get one of these adapters cheap? i am new to this whole changing of lens business

umm, DSLR are cheap nowadays. You can probably get a use t2i/t3i for $200-$400. Much cheaper and less headaches than trying to get shallow DOF out of camcorder.
