Canon EOS C100

Canon makes its own sensors. Sony also makes its own sensors. Nikon buys from Sony.

It is becoming very difficult to read through all the posts. A few people want to repeat their comment again and again. No idea why.

I can always dream of a camera or a lens to be cheaper. It ultimately boils down to the strategy of the company. The companies do visit various forums to understand the user psyche. However, people unnecessarily being combative and arguing doesn't make for very easy reading and reduces the utility of this discussion forums.

Guys, Please put your points clearly and at one go. If you don't like something say so with reasons. Politeness goes a long way in putting across your points convincingly.
Cheers,
Sabyasachi

Indeed, some people really need some common sense...as well as some proper grammar to go with it ;)

If only the C100 could take RAW photos, I'd sell all my Nikon equipment and move to a C100 hands down.

Sorry, but if i was paying close to 8k for a Dedicated VIDEO camera, I most certainly wouldn't want it to have a sensor designed for stills and i wouldn't want more megapixels that needed.... haha

Add a Convergent Design Nanoflash for double the price of the Atomos Ninja2 and you have exactly the same thing as a C300, with MPEG2 4:2:2 recording to CF cards at 50bmbs, with an option to increase the but rate.

With a street price of the C100 of let's say around $6500, you have a two piece C300 for $8500. It will have a lesser EVF, like the EVF on the XF100 which I used with little problems, and Locking HDMI rather than SDI but HDMI is what lets you use a Nanoflash, lighter weight, the addition of one button AF and AE, extended log compression into 709 like nonlog delivery format, and different placement of the LCD so you can shoot more easily without the handle, a built in microphone, and waveform in the EVF. more than competitive. It will work wonderfully except for those who need time code, Genlock, SDI or to answer a job calling for a C300 or to shoot in approved BBC formats (until this combo gets approved ot the one with a Ninja).

start with one design and than tweak or remove some option for different price range ...
nothing bad in that , its just how industry works ... i dont get it why so much people get offended by that ...it doesnt mean its a bad sensor ...

Still more misinformation and bogus "info" from vlad. Nothing new there but it's kinda tiring.

All different sized sensors are inherently also different designs. What's the difference between CPU's? They are all same sized from the same wafer planets. The F65 sensor is huge compared to miniscule 1/3" sensor which inhabit their consumer cams. Ofcourse the technology itself will mostly be the same between same era sensors but there are huge differences between the more expensive ones. CPU's from Intel are pretty much the same but binned and locked.

So what's the difference? Readout speeds for one. Noise for second. More complex sensors have different and more complex read-out mechanisms. That's why the D800 with a Sony CMOS is considerably less noisy than the Sony nex 5n sensor. Dynamic range is also considerably different.

Trolls exist because people rise to the bait. Ignore the bad behavior of a small child and it usually goes away, respond to it and the temper tantrums get worse.

I just got the call from Canon.....the price for the C100 is.......$6499.00......available in November.

Sample AVCHD video, heavily graded. Hmmm.

Making of videos

On an iPad, I'm traveling, it looks very disappointing. Great resolution and poor color gradients, and poor handling of facial tones except in narrow exposure range. This sensor should handle large DR better. On this iPad it looks like it was shot to hide camera faults, lots of shiloluette and shaddow hiding of faces. Need to see on proper monitor. On this iPad it looks like a highly detailed consumer cam.

Would love to see the original file. Seeing it with the Vimeo compression doesn't really let me evaluate the image the way I need to.

Philip, thanks for posting these links.
Honestly, I'm not much impressed. I know that it's hard to judge a camera from a vimeo compressed video, but I just didn't go crazy for these images.
Resolution is really good, though.
Need to see more videos...

I agree. I would never order based of this. I fact this is nearly enough to get our team to cancel preorders. it just raises more questions about the AVCHD implementation potentially ruining a really fine sensor. AVCHD is higher contrast, but this goes beyond what I expect in a Cinema EOS series camera.

It did look extensively graded (as you mentioned when posting). I guess all this shows us is what *someone* would get from this camera. I'm more interested in seeing what's possible and for that I think we'll need to be able to download the flat file. And I would love love love to see what it looks like with an external recorder (both a ninja and a Hyperdeck) but I think we'll have to wait for cameras to be in the wild for that to happen...
