Hi,

Both the lenses i own EFS 18-55mm IS and the EFS 55-250mm IS both have a rotating front ring right. So what lens hood should i go for considering these type of lenses because the hood would also rotate and the flower hood might rotate with it causing some vignetting problems etc ?

The alternate is the 3 stage collapsible rubber hood. Its the conical type and can collapse when using wider angles.

Please let me know what you guys think and what you use.

Regards

Come on guys. Im sure most of you have experience with this. Its basic. I mean can you use a flower hood on a basic 18-55mm kit lens ? The front rotates right. And wont that create some bad vignetting ? Please let me know as i have to order these asap.

Thanks.

My four favorite words.

Go for the rubber.

Since the front element (where the hood mounts) rotates, you're correct, it isn't designed to work with a petal shaped hood. You might be able to jury rig it by holding the hood in the proper orientation against the front of the lens, but it won't be fun.

Hey thanks for the heads up !

Have you used the rubber ones with 3 stage compression ? If i use it on my 18-55, will it vignette at 18 ? even if i compress it fully back wards for a wider clearance ?

Hi Moses,

Yes i did see those hoods. They are hard hoods if im right. During storage they might eat more space. And also if hard if there is pressure on them. The prssure gets indirectly transmitted straight into the lens moving barrel with more leverage due to the hood. The rubber ones just fold up and provide a soft alternate i guess. But i might be wrong too.
