Canon Cinema lenses?

I'm glad I don't work on those kind of productions with that kind of pressure. I remember watching the BTS of The Social Network and in one part watching Fincher yell at a boom operator for having his mic end up in the shot. He was not happy at all lol. I was surprised they left that in the BTS footage.

I love both styles of shooting, they just carry different sets of challenges. As Hunter S. Thompson would say: "Buy the ticket, take the ride."

I'm falling more and more in love with the manual Nikkor lenses: http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Camera-Lenses/Manual/index.page. Mind you, this is all based on paper. And if I were shooting a multimillion-dollar feature with my own professional focus puller, I would not subject him to these. But at least as long as I am a no-budget, for-fun shooter, I think the old manual lenses are a fantastic deal. Great optics. Great build. And the 50mm, at least, doesn't even breathe so much:

Seriously, why are the primes not priced at $2k each? I would buy a set of 3 in a heartbeat. Canon makes great lenses, but they aren't know for cine-lenses... so how can they justify selling them at a such a high price without ANY track record? I'd rather just get Ziess CP's if I'm going into that price bracket...

It's official... Canon has packed up and moved to fantasy land with the rest of this stupid elitist industry. At least they accidentally gave us the 5D. Could you imagine how much Canon would have charged for a "cinema market" FF35 camera (even with 4:2:0 8-bit) back when the 5D originally came out? It probably would have been $250,000...

These insanely priced lenses and ludicrous C300 announcement really put things into perspective for me. Seriously, we're all able to shoot VISTAVISION and S35mm footage IN THE PALM OF OUT HANDS!!! After this announcement, I looked at my DSLRs and realized... we hit the jackpot. This would have NEVER happened on it's own. NEVER. Be thankful...

Be thankful they gave us 24p for free.

That said, this is not a "stupid elitist" industry. Stop thinking you need to own every piece of equipment in the world. Do construction workers feel the need to own their caterpillars? Cranes? bull dozers? No.

Try... just TRY renting gear, instead of buying.... Suddenly you can afford pretty much any camera you want for a month for 1/3 the price of an F3... c300 or R1. But instead of getting just a useless cam body, you get a camera, lenses, the tools that make it functional.
