Even though the 5DIII is very dated by today's standards, it is still the number 1 full frame DSLR being sold today.

I agree that a company like Panasonic is offering more innovative, 4K products and these are basically the same camcorders Canon has been repackaging year after year...but HD is still here and these will still sell.

For those who frequent camera boards, perception may be skewed into thinking everyone's buying 4K cameras these days. Average Joe looking for a camcorder at Best Buy might view 4K to mean larger file sizes, more expensive computer, 4K TV. Which isn't necessarily the case, but still may be the perception.

The cameras announced by Canon are for a specific clientele. People here seem to forget the requirement of working professionals whose needs vary wildly. There are plenty of TV channels looking for 1080i content (note even 1080p), some too happy with 720p (especially news channels). I see lot of weddings in my country shot in 1080p but delivered in DVD and pendrives so you know the resolution. There are also high end weddings asking for bluray delivery however those wedding are shot with different cameras.

I agree. Plus all the cable companies still are only broadcasting in 720p because of the high bandwith that is needed for 1080p let alone 4K. I know that Netflix streams content in 4K and direct tv and dish are going to start broadcasting in 4K this year or maybe they started already, not really sure, but it is coming.. I would not buy a camera today unless it had 4K though. Canon needs to start putting out affordable 4K cameras sooner then later, because all the other companies are passing them by with the 4K cameras they are releasing.
