Canon has announced EOS 77D, T7i and one mirrorless camera M6

I don't know the purpose of the EOS 77D as they had last year launched the 80D. But found that the 77D has a max ISO upto 51200 as opposed to the 80D which can go upto ISO 25600. The 77D body only is $899 usd.

Also, as expected all of them have 1080p video capabilities and not UHD or 4K.

The M6 has 5 axis "combination IS" which is digital image stabilisation. And it is expected to work well with the IS lenses.

Wake me up when Canon comes to the party.

It seems like Canon has given up on DSLR video for now.

Canon gave up on DSLR video in 2012.

And that wouldn't have been so bad if they pushed the envelope with their Cinema EOS line. But even that seems to be stagnating.

And trust me, I'm not a 'spec buyer' that demands Canon's products look good on paper. I'm really hoping the C100 (especially) gets revitalised come NAB. Those rumors need to start showing up soon.

I had bought an 80D last year. Barely a year later, they have launched the 77D with Digic 7 instead of Digic 6 of 80D. So 77D has higher ISO (51200) and also digital image stabilisation in the body. That is the first time we find it in a DSLR body. I think that is due to competition. So it is like cannibalising your own model which Canon earlier never did. So I think this is a good signal. C100 Mark III will be good.

Canon seems to think that Nikon is their main competition and since Nikon has been staggering behind specially on 4k and auto focusing in video, Canon feels they don't need to perform. That's where they are wrong as many are migrating to Sony and Panasonic. If Canon doesn't introduce a C100 III with 4k and decent codec, I don't see any hope for them with Panasonic launching the GH5 at 10bit 4:2:2 internal 4k.

While I agree about Canon's mindset in competing with Nikon on DSLRs, not sure if I agree about GH5 users. In my mind, a typical GH5 user is different than a typical C100 user. The low end corporate, event, wedding market for many low end camera users doesn't care about, need or want 4K. Yet, it is starting to heat up. The GH5 obviously has better specs but it's still a stills camera that shoots video, not a video camera. The form factor and lack of video features is a major limitation for many video shooters, no different that the DSLR was for many us who came back to video cameras after dabbling with DSLR video for a while. The lines are blurring, Panasonic is adding more video-like features to the GH5, which is good but there is still a part of the market that wants/needs a video camerawith integrated XLRs, time code, built in NDs, etc. Video specs are not everything for a lot of low end shooters. I just did a shoot yesterday where a client used their 4K Handycam as a b angle with me shooting my C100. He was all jazzed that his $800.00 Sony shoots 4k but when we reviewed the footage, he was blown away how much better the 1080 from the C100 looked.
