we have an a1 here at work and a co-worker updated their fcp to 6.0.3 and now it wont capture 24f and 30f footage. it will capture like the first 72 frames or something but nothing more.

using macbook pro with leopard 10.5.2 and fcp 6.0.3 capture using regular HDV codec.

he was able to capture using imovie however.

your capture settings are off. the same thing happened to me for such a long time. you have to go into your capture settings, and make a custom one for your camera to use from now on. if you need a step by step i can give it to you. but basically you go into your capture settings, copy the closest to the one you would use for your camera, and then edit that one in the advanced settings. (in there they have settings for frame rate and progressive scan).

EDIT: i didnt run into this problem with 24f footage, but rather with normal footage. but i think it reacted the same way

FCP 6.0.3 capture issues

FCP 6.0.3 capture issues

I'm working with 24F/A1 footage and am having the same problem too. On the message boad on the Apple site I also saw a few JVC 720P HDV users also having it.

When I capture, it grabs a few frames and then says "Searching for media".

I have a back-and-forth going with somebody at Apple and I'll post if they have good news for us (or even if its bad news).

This problem is real.

I also cannot capture 24F from an XH-A1 since upgrading to FCP 6.0.3. It DOES work in iMovie 7.1.1 in the Apple Intermediate Codec and in Final Cut Pro 6.0.3 in Apple Intermediate Codec, but DOES NOT work in the Native HDV codec.

Come on, Apple!!!

More info...

The problem appears to be timecode related.

I have been able to capture tapes with low starting timecode numbers (01:00:00:00, 02:00:00:00, 03:00:00:00, 04:00:00:00, 05:00:00:00, etc) just fine in FCP 6.0.3. Anything above that range (06:00:00:00, etc), "no way Jose."

Does anyone know if Apple periodically releases single application updates within the Studio? If history serves, the Pro Applications Update comes only 2x a year.

If that's the case, we're in a world of discomfort until November when they fix this.

if I have fcp 6.0.1 should I bother updating? all this talk of problems importing is turning me off to the idea because at the moment I have no problems whatsoever importing hdv and sdv footage.

For a professional application, this is borderline unacceptable. There is a group of users who cannot capture their footage in the current version of Final Cut Pro! Nor can they open projects created in the current version in an older version that DOES allow them to capture their footage. And Apple, proverbially, is more interested in the iPhone and selling iPods and MacBook's to college students than they are in meeting the needs of their professional userbase.

This is what we get for supporting a company for 5-6 years with loyalty to their products?
