Canon 7D royaly messing up Vegas 9

So, I drop a bunch of unconverted 7D files into my time line and do a little four minute edit today. As I'm doing this all hell breaks loose.

First, Vegas is just laggy as hell as soon as these files are imported to the project media pane. Every little mouse click takes forever to register.

Playback is very slow (but I expect/can live with this) even on Preview/auto with a small window.

After a certain number of clicks or edits on the timeline, the thumbnail previews of the clip turn red and sometimes the clip will play, sometimes it is just black. Shutdown/restart required of Vegas.

Then Vegas won't play any of the /mov files (timeline or bin) because "this module is already in use". Changing the preview quality to something different and then back solves this.

Now I am going to render, and it says my system is too low on memory so it cannot. Restart of Vegas or my computer does not fix the problem. Other projects not using 7D media still render fine.

Add to all that a random smattering of unexpected errors and problems triggering Vegas to shutdown on a whim it seems.

Any idea of what's going on or a way to solve it, besides going through an intermediate codec?

Haven't experienced any of those issues with 7D files in Vegas 8... I wouldn't think it's the 7D's files that are the problem, def. report the issue to Sony...

Even if you wouldn't get these problems with 9, you would still get crashes with 8 after editing a bit. The point of the matter is, Vegas doesn't like much Quicktime formats, especially heavy ones. This is why you are supposed to either use Cineform, or at the very least proxy files. In fact, no one is using these files as is, in any platform, in any editor.
