Canon 7D Lighting (ArriLite 1000)

Hey guys,

I work for a music recording studio in Nashville, we have a couple of house artists that we are trying to break into the scene and I decided to jump in to the video side of things to help costs. It has always been something Iʻve been interested in so I thought Iʻd take the chance. Well 3 months later Iʻm still learning on the fly.

I rented an ArriLite 1k to help with a musical showcase, just needed a big spotlight for the stage, and ended up using it for a couple of radio liners. I paired it with this little DIY shop lamp Iʻm used to using, but I was very pleased with the result.

I used the shop lamp for a side filler and the Arri in the front to fill out the rest of the face, using a power dimmer on the Arri because the thing is bright as hell.

My question...

Are ArriLites what I should be going for with my camera? Or should I stick to more Daylight colored lamps?

Is there any other light kits that are similar and more affordable, or that have a better reputation?

Below are links to a sample of one of the liners for a radio station.

The first link is straight off the camera converted to prores, the second it with a slight contrast and color balance.

Thanks!

Way too frustrating trying to access download (via Firefox, at least).

If video, can you post to vimeo
If image, can you link to flickr???

Phudsontx,

I really do, I only had two lights to work with, but in the future Iʻd like to experiment with a hair light. Thanks for the input.

Jls4,

I did crush the blacks a little bit, but not much. It is just to my personal taste, but I think i will back off the contrast a little bit. Thanks.

Very good. See if you can add a little detail to the b/g.
Sometimes studios have track lighting on dimmers you can use, even a cool desk lamp might liven things up. But I'm just nit-picking, very good over all.

And thank you for reposting to vimeo.

Good work.
