Canon 5D wardrobe

Hello everyone,

I may be in the wrong section but who better to ask than a cinematographer. I recently purchased a canon 5D and will be shooting a horror film.

My question is with respect to lighting and using the Canon, what colors do you recommend my actors should be wearing? Wardrobe plays a big part too. I'll be shooting indoors and outdoors, during the day and night. Going for natural lighting and for indoors just a few red heads.

My DP has never used a Canon 5D or 7D. He thinks we should try for RED, he's more comfortable with that.

Thanks again for reading and I apologize if I wasted anyone's time.

This probably would be better posted in the Canon DSLR sections... For me shooting as 'flat/neutral' as possible, unless there's a specific creative reason, is the 'best' way. Then in post alter to the aesthetic goals of the project.

Shooting DSLR vs. RED (or any other highend digital camera...) probably has more to do with color depth of the recording, and I believe the current state of art on the DSLRs is 4:2:0 sampling... There have been near e-fist fights in the GH1 section over which is better 7D, 5D, or GH-1, GH-13... etc... but I think all of them are 'pretty close', and one would chose Canons because of such features as live HDMI output (GH-2 has that now...). I'm not too sure on digitizing the HDMI output of the Canons, but the GH-2 doesn't lend itself to that 'well'... The idea being to get better color sampling.

If your DP is not familiar with the camera, it would probably be worth it to rent/borrow the camera setup, and shoot some test shots with colors appropriate for your project, and see what the rendition is, and what post production is capable of.

You would have the same problem if your DP was use to using Kodak stock and you wanted to shoot on Fuji... tests are in order...
