A quick test of this setup shows surprising promise, mainly because high iso can be used, allowing for smaller aperture settings. A test showed that a Nikon 50mm lens set at f8 can achieve focus at 1.5m, and with the addition of a +1 diopter can focus at about .5m (and even less). No aliasing is evident on testing so far, indoors or out.
