cannot drag clip onto selected timeline

Premiere Pro 2.0

Timeline track is selected. Dragging a clip to the timeline, but it wants to go elsewhere. Sometimes restarting Premiere Pro fixes this, other times not.

Anyone else have a real issue with how tough it is sometimes to drag clips to where you want them?

If so, what are your remedies?

Thank you.

Audio or video clip?

Note that you can only have mono audio on mono tracks, stereo audio on stereo track and 5.1 audio on 5.1 tracks. So, if you for example are trying to place a mono clip on a stereo track it will indeed "go elswhere", ie to a mono track track that already exists or to a mono track that PPro creates on the fly for you.

Video clip. It very often ignores the selected video track or any open tracks for that matter and its impossible to drag on the timeline and instead creates a new video section. The timelines/tracks are not locked either.

Since restarting it fixes it from time to time, my guess is that its a bit buggy and 2.x or something might fix it.

Thank you!

Strange... I have never heard of this problem...

Regarding selected Video Track:
Note that video clips never snaps to selected tracks when you drag a video clip from the Project Panel or the Source Panel to the Timeline with your mouse. So, if you select a Video Track and drag the clip to the Timeline it will not automaticly go to the track that is selected/targeted when you drag it to the Timeline with your mouse.

Regarding new creation of tracks:
PPro never creates new Video Tracks unless you specify it. However, PPro does create a new Video Track if you drag a video clip to the dark grey area abowe the highest Video Track on the Timeline.

If Ppro creates a new Video Track when you are trying to place a video clip on lets say Video 1 or dont allow you to place video on a Video Track it seems that you have a damaged installation/copy of PPro. :)

I get this with audio clips sometimes - I try to drag it onto the Audio 1 track and it wants to go to 3 or something.

I explained why this happens with audio in my first post in this thread. :)

Yeah I get the audio thing too untill I figured out what Averdahl explained but thats wierd for video. Maybee you should try to reinstall the program.

I too have never seen this behavior out of any version of PPro. Just to test, I would suggest adding a new video track and then target that track for the clip you wish to place. If it gets placed correctly, see if you can now drag it to the intended track.
