Cannot Burn this Disk

I'm on a Powerbook G4 with Mac OS X -- I still consider myself a Mac newbie.

I've got 8 uncompressed MOV files (each is under 4.7 gb). I created a DVD using drag and drop -- no problem. I attempted to burn another copy of the disk using the same two files, and using a disk from the same spinde. After the Mac created the disc image (which took about 20 minutes), it gave me an error message that "this disk cannot be used." Why not?

I've tried creating a disc image and burning that, but it failed too. I've also tried using other brands of DVDs and other disks from the same spindle that worked previously. WTPP?

Let me clear up that I did not attempt to put all 8 files on one disc.

They actually have to be 4.3 GB or less.

You might need to run a CD cleaner in your drive if a totally new DVD refuses to burn.
(check for dust and dirt)

My problem is that the Mac keeps failing and making coasters. I'm burning large MOV files as data to DVD.

I tried using Finder, which has a success rate of 1 in 7, and I've used Disk Utility, which has a sucess rate of 1 in 4.

The Mac universe is cruel and empty.

EDIT: This answered some of my questions, but I'm on 10.3.9, not 10.4.
