Cannon Rock

This popular youtube song has been around for awhile.
According to Wiki "Canon Rock" is a neo-classical metal arrangement of Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D major by the Taiwanese musician and composer Jerry Chang."

Can we agree that's accurate? I'll assume so for now.

The most popular online posting that I originally saw was the following. I assume then this might be JerryC.
I believe I first saw this via a post in the cafe by Brandon Rice.

I responded to this video on youtube at that time, maybe a year ago or more.
I felt he was a bit sloppy in several parts and in relistening to it I feel the same way.

Now I came across this one. Described as "JerryC - the original.
I have no reason to believe it's not the same person so I'll assume it is for now.
I prefer this version, and although I can still crit it, I'll leave it for now.
I heard, I think, Stevie Vai (?) do a version of this also. Maybe it was someone else.
anyways...

Well the wiki link only has 2 parts to it, and in the second part...

30 second sample from Jeong-Hyun Lim's performance of "Canon Rock" Problems listening to this file? See media help.
Jeong-Hyun Lim performs "Canon Rock". This is one of YouTube's most viewed videos.

Perhaps the most famous of the covers was created by the South Korean guitarist Lim Jeong-hyun, aka “funtwo”, his Internet alias. Funtwo's video on youtube has been viewed over 70 million times.[1]
A cover performed on the violin has been performed as a duet by popular Japanese violinists "Fukumen" and "Usako," those being their Internet aliases.[2]

Thanks Kevin. I must have overlooked that reference to funtwo in the melee of posting and being in a moment, if you will.

At any rate, a great composition by Johann Pachelbel (buried March 9, 1706, according to wiki).

I have to wonder though why Cannon Rock has been more seemingly popular amongst the oriental artists? Maybe it's been a matter of exposure? The music itself transcends nationalities as indicated by the youtube receptions of the renditions.

Briefly off topic, another favorite of mine is Bartok although I've not studied his music at all. Shame on me. Very interesting and progressive style that also lends itself well to modern interpretations, imo.

...edit, sort of...
I actually logged in to post an early Kansas vid (before cathing this older thread) in the 'What are you listening to now" thread but lost the link in a hard drive crash so I'll just post it here, while I'm here, for any early Kansas fans.
