Cannes Short Film Corner - SHOULD I GO - anyone who went???

Great advice going to the daily happy hour at 5pm. It's when the Short Film Corner is busiest - a great opportunity to meet people.

I go to Cannes every year and drop by the short filmmaking corner for the daily Happy Hour (free drinks!)
with your SFC accreditation you will be able to go into the A Lister hotels, Majestic, Martinez, Grand, Carlton which also house the majors (in the penthouse suites) and access the pavilions along the croisette (apart from the American pavilion which costs some extra $$$'s and the Kodak pavilion which requires an extra pass which you can get by asking Kodak nicely).

Hi, we've decided to go to the SFC at Cannes and was reading everything and saw your comment. To Who or How do you ask for that extra pass for the Kodak Pavillion? I'm going with my Director and DP for our first time and think it would be great to go. Let me know. Thanks!!

Unfortunately for the first time since I began going, Kodak aren't having a pavilion this year.

You may want to check out what's going on in the UK pavilion as they have seminars and QnA's with top talent. Andy Serkis gave a great talk on performing for green screen last year. The AmPav usually has some decent masterclasses with A listers too.

Hey guys,

My name is Daniel and I have produced a short film in Australia that we are considering submitting to the Short Film Corner in Cannes.

My question is, as the film is only available to view on demand on the computers set up in the screening area, and not actually screened in a cinema, does our being selected affect our film's premier status? That is, would it still be possible to enter, say, Venice or Berlin, given that both of these festivals require either a world or international premier?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Dan

I think it's worth going if you can afford it. The short film corner is under the festival Palais which is where the Film Market is. So you will get to see how the industry works first hand. Also with your SFC accreditation you will be able to go into the A Lister hotels, Majestic, Martinez, Grand, Carlton which also house the majors (in the penthouse suites) and access the pavilions along the croisette (apart from the American pavilion which costs some extra $$$'s and the Kodak pavilion which requires an extra pass which you can get by asking Kodak nicely).

One of our guys created a guide, it may be useful: http://www.pleasedsheep.com/content.php/100-A-Guide-to-the-Cannes-Film-Festival

I'm just curious (I usually have a Market or Professional pass) but how many max points do SFC accreditation get on their ticket system, and what inclusive invites do you guys get?

Hi everyone,

Great advice, thank you! Our film Patch Town was selected for the short film corner and we couldn't be more pleased. The film which I wrote and directed had it's premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2011 so it is exciting to see that it still has the legs into 2012. I would love to connect, and party, with as many filmmakers as possible so please don't hesitate to reach out to me on Facebook, twitter, or carrier pigeon. Here is some info about me if you are interested. http://craiggoodwill.com Look forward to seeing you all there!

Congratulations! I'll look forward to seeing it on those short film corner computers, we should meet up!

Most people that I know of (when accepted to SFC) go to Cannes to promote their ability as a director. For me I am planning to go but for promoting what I can offer as an actor. My question is, if accepted, are agents known for going to Cannes to scout? If so that would be worth going. Any thoughts or advice on my plan? And yes I do have acting experience.

To clarify I'm producing a short film that I will be submitting to Cannes. I'm not just going to go without a film .

Hi there. Wanted to ask a question along the lines of the original poster. My friend and I made a film and it's been accepted. I'm wondering whether I should go. She's planning to go. She said the festival sent a mail and said they (the festival) were furnishing airfare and hotel for her plus a friend in Cannes. That sounded a little odd. Has anyone had that experience? Does the festival put you up in a hotel and fly you over? We live in Greece, so it's not too far, but still, it sounded a little too good to be true. I appreciate any advice or experience anyone can share.

Generally the festival pays for your hotel in Cannes if your film is in competition (Well done! Which film is it? PM me!). But other peeps I know had to ask their country's film office and company for the airfare.

Eribon, yes agents are known to scout as well. Have you submitted your 13x18 photo for the new actors wall?

I'm not familiar. Do you mean an actor's wall at Cannes?

Yes... an actor's wall at Cannes. Usually all Professional Actor Accreditation (without agency representation) send in their 13x18cm photo to their office to hang up.
