I just recently read an article on wikipedia about "Cineplex Odeon Films" and it states "In early 1998, Cineplex Odeon itself was forced to scrap its distribution arm, provided Canadian law forbids foreign companies from owning domestic distributors."
Does this mean under Canadian law it's illegal for a US-based company to own Canadian Distributor? Or was it the fact that they owned Cinemas in Canada as well. If it's illegal how do Warner Brothers and Paramount both have Canadian operations?
