Can you make a mini 35 with a lens like this?

Nope, that lens is a 2/3'' CCD broadcast lens (and a nice looking one) so it wouldn't cover a large enough area. You could feasibly construct a similar device with a smaller sensor, but what you'd gain would be virtually nothing. Also, mounting it would be a nightmare.

You *could* make a re-imaging system with any lens. A 2/3" broadcast lens will be limiting for several reasons, mostly because it's designed for a 2/3" sensor, not 35mm sensor. Also, a B4 mount will be terribly difficult and expensive to obtain. Impractical yet possible.

To get an idea of what the adapter will do, hold a piece of wax paper behind the lens and take a look.

Wow thanks for the fast answers.

Howd you find out its 2/3 ccd ? You may be right, I may have been wrong about the lens.

The lenses I have are this one, a canon yh14 and a yh18 lens. They both fit on my dxc-950 sony cameras. That is a 1/3 ccd I'm pretty sure. As far as the mount goes, I have a bunch of old dead cams so i could remove the bayonet mount easily. Is it a bad idea to even bother though?

As far as holding something behind the lens and looking through, its so small i can barely see anything, even without wax.

Dear Lucidz:

To be very clear, the purpose of a "Mini35" type device is to achieve that same depth of field present in 35mm film lenses when shooting a given field of view. These lenses make an image circle approx 2 1/2 X larger than the 2/3" video lens, so a device utilizing a lens designed for that small video format would not achieve the goal, so there is no reason to do it, even tho it is techically possible.

Thanks so much for the help, as I said, I am ignorant of such things :(

Does anyone have a suggestion for a dirt dirt dirt DIRT ass cheap lens I 'could' put on here to try one out? I hate to spend a lot of money when I'm not even sure I can make one or will actually do it.

Also where would I go to buy it? Like a wolf camera in a mall or something?

Thanks again :)

Ebay or adorama or b&h. The two lenses I'm using on my home built adapter were 40 and 65 dollars respectively, and I could have easily gone even cheaper. I have a Nikon E Series 28mm f2.8 and a Nikon Nikkor 50mm f1.4 from the 70's I think. On ebay, the 50mm f1.8 E Series lens is about 20 bucks and it's great. No zoom, of course, and totally manual, but it's a really nice lens for next to nothing. I put one on my Digital Rebel XT and took this photo:

Tons of resolution.

Policar, uh, two things.

1. you are very helpful and for that I thank you..

2. that is more resolution than i've ever needed to see in my life, and for that, i hate you..

:D

Yeah, my brother needs some anti-acne cream or something, but he refuses to use it. I should have put a warning.

Here are some shots with my f1.4 50mm Nikkor. The static grain is just dust on the UV filters which could be cleaned except for one of the dots which is in the wax.
