Hi Sorry if this have been covered but I cant seem to find any reference.
Just wondering if it is possible to convert DVCPRO HD 1080 8bit (already captured) to 10bit in post.
I read cineform has some Lossless Codec but seemingly it only operates on PC.
I would like to maintain as much detail and information as possible for possible film out and was wondering if this is possible.

Regards.

It is also possible to convert to ProRes 422 (HQ) in post. This of course would not increase the quality of the already captured footage, but would allow effects, etc. to be processed at the higher bit level. Others can correct me if I am wrong, but I think you could also have your DVCPro HD footage render at 10-bits by checking the render high quality YUV (or words to that effect) button in FCP's preferences.

Thanks Guys !

Just a few questions, If I already have the footage on hard disc does this mean that by simply converting the files to pro res I can maintain the quality.
Is pro res a lossless codec ? On the Cineform site they say that working with different generations of DVCPRO HD reduces the quality. I have the DeckLink HD Pro PCIe card but I want to capture to P2 cards for workflow reasons but still need to retain the quality throughout the editing and output stages as we hope to transfer to a film out at a later stage.
I am not an editor so I'm trying to get my head around the various solutions available. Thanks

It is kind of hard to respond to your questions without knowing more about your workflow. What steps are you trying to maintain quality throughout? I ask this because with DVC Pro HD, as with other digital formats, you can make copies of a file without any quality loss--loss of quality becomes an issue when the files are rendered. Are you concerned about exporting between applications, for example to do color correction. Perhaps the best way to get answers to your questions would be to discuss them with whoever will be your editor on your project.
