Can you belive it?

I went to a place where people throw "obsolete" hardware and stuff for recycling yesterday. And guess what, I found a Sony 17" CRT computer monitor with no broken pins and just a very small scratch on the screen. I can't belive that people actually throw stuff like that away, probably because they got an LCD or something. It functions perfectly, handles 1024x768 on 85hz, 1280x1024 on 60hz and has got lots of nice options for brightness, contrast and color temp. In short words, a great monitor that just replaced my 15" second computer monitor. :) So now I have two 17"s for my dual-monitors.

Those monitors still cost like $150 here.

Only now my back still hurts after carrying it home...

Yea, its sad but true, just heard on the news yesterday that we humans consume at a rate that is the same as having THREE earths, at this rate it aint good...

I say good on you good find dude !, I generally do not throw away stuff untill its dead, like reallly really dead.

Yeah, people throw away like crazy here in Norway. I go to that place many times a week looking for stuff, and I've found LOTS of unused cables there. There is almost always a monitor laying there too, but it's usually 15" (I already have two of them) and has some broken pins. This find was just lovely. :)

Yeah. I've had this Windows 98 since..guess when. 1998. So even when i wanted something new i got a second hand laptop that was windows 2000....only for it to bust 4 days later. But yeah.

Ask any workplace where comps are used; just as soon as the company upgrades, all the displays are scrapped or stored.

I asked around somewhere, and I got a 21" Trinitron CRT.

Wohoo, I just found a nice working 28" CRT TV at the same place. One doesn't really get free TVs around here either :D

Except cheap bastards like me. I'm trying to build a retro PC to work with an old 3D program, still have clothes from 20 years and more, and my wife of 7 years... but she could go at any moment!

Just kidding Dear :)

That's ok...I married the original dumpster diver wife. All that stuff will probably end up at my house eventually so keep tossing your gear.

While you're digging through the obsolete hardware, please keep your eyes open for an AMD 1800 and MB. Gotta get Infini-D 3D running again!
