okay so im still trying to get my ntsc preview monitor to preview my footage from final cut... me setup is a g5 with final cut, jvc vhs/mini dv VCR, and a sony triniton color preview monitor. Im really wondering if the VCR will even transfer the signal through firwire for me. Ive tried everything. anyone got any suggestions??

You need to make sure the JVC is set up to play thru to the correct OUTS in back where you've got the tv hooked up to. Might take some manual reading and some menu browsing... but it can be done.

If you can see a VHS or a miniDV play thru to the TV you're halfway there. The rest is as Volcano says.
