Can someone help me?

Stye in my eye
I can't playback anything in the vegas timeline. I get an error mesage reading "Error Occured During Playback: Device Specified is in use." and it has an "Ok" and "Details" Option, which when clicked reads "The playback device Microsoft Sound Mapper does not exist." So I've tried a few things: Changing the audio device, closing all other programs except vegas, and even defragging my hard drive, to no avail. The clips were captured with vegas as AVI's. I get the same message with every filetype. Is this possibly a hardware problem? Is there a way I can fix this? All help would be appreciated. Thanks.

What sound device are you using? An internal card that came in your PC or something like a Firepod? Did you check for updated drivers, etc?

I'm using the internal sound card.

I'm not sure why you're getting the "device in use" message if everything else is shut down. I get that if I'm running Sonar and try to play something in WMP, but Vegas plays nice with WMP. Other than those I don't ever have multiple things running at the same time.

What choices do you have in the Audio Device Type drop down?

20th time's a charm

I changed the audio divice for something like the 20th time, and for some reason it worked this time. I've been editigng away all night, making up for lost time. Thanks all who responded.
