Can someone help me achieve this effect?

What I wanna do is have a bird's eye view of flowing water with an empty can floating in it.

I am using the red giant plugin Psunami which looks amazing. The only hard part is how to add the empty can floating on top of the water. I guess I could get a still image and animate it in AE, or film the can in front of a green screen, but I don't know how realistic those methods will turn out.

Anybody have any better ideas?

Not realistic at all, try a birds eye view in your bath tub, and then roto out the can, (I assume you have wavy water and not still pond water?) That way you can add some bounce and dimention to your can.

You can use CC Cylinder and two circles for the end and put together a can in 3D space in AE and sell a pretty realistic effect. There's a way to make it react to a 3D camera, I'd have to dig up the expression but I found it via some google searching so I'm sure you can find it.
