Can someone explain how to import 3d ojects from Photoshop?

This is in cs5 production premium. I've watched a bunch of tutorials and tried doing it. What am I doing wrong? I brought an object into photoshop then I used the 3d to make a cube. Smart object and animation. I used the camera tool to check it out. It looked like it worked in photoshop. I saved file as a psd and then imported to after effects as a composition. It showed up but when I applied a camera and tried to move it the object has no depth. It's 2d. Am I doing something wrong? If someone could help me I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I was unaware of any 'real' 3-D capability in After Effects. It has a 'paste board' 3-D. That is you can assign a 'Z' axis value to a clip, along with rotation along some axis in the X-Y space, but it is a '2-d' object.

As a note, I've not done much with the 3-D mesh capabilities of Photoshop of late. I know I tried it once... but I've been banging my head against Blender for years... so I'll keep banging there for 'real' 3-D...

Maybe I'll check out blender. Photoshop was so close. It's so easy to manipulate and I thought I had it, but no cigar. If somebody knows a way with extended please chime in. For the time being I'll check out blender.

Yeah. That's the video I saw as well. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I tried that. But when I bring it into after effects and try to use a camera around it - it ends up flipping and showing it's 2d proportions.

I've not tried this, so, I'll have to... but I got the impression that any 3-D manipulation had to occur 'in Photoshop' via widgetry called 'photoshop live', since ultimately AE is dealing with a 2-d layer. There appeared to be the ability to keyframe the photoshop 3-D movements, but it really is 'in Photoshop', not in AE. So moving the AE camera would only show the 2-D cardboard cutout of the imported PS layer...

Again I'll have to go through this my self... but that's my conjecture at the moment...

Just thought I'd let people know I tried using the camera in photoshop by converting to smart object and while I can get it to move around there no matter how i brought it into after effects it still seemed 2d. Here's an example of how it can give depth but not spin with the camera....

I just took an old egyptian wall and made a cube out of it. I added some brightness and glow and then spun around a bit.

For the sky I used a still and used the skydome script. It's great for moving around in 3d space. If you wanted to move around and have the picture in a panaroma that you can move around in and manipulate.
