Is it posible to edit in Vegas , 4min music video on computer Pentium 4 3Ghz, ram 2Gb. video card -NVIDIA geforce FX5200-128mb

I have a three types of files:
- mov files-h264, made with Cannon 5d
-achvd-m2t made with Sony Z7
- mpeg made with cannon 5d

What is the best way to finish project .
Do I have to convert all files to avi format and do proxy editing.
What converter is the best in my case , I dont have a very strong comp

Hey zaksplit,

You could try DVFilm Epic I with Vegas 9 to get realtime playback of the Canon 5d h.264 quicktimes. No transcoding or proxy swapping. Epic is a workflow tool that makes realtime epic files when you bring the h.264s into the Vegas timeline. You can make full, half or quarter resolution epic files so you can edit in realtime on virtually any computer. Your computer should be able to handle the files with no problems.

When you are done editing, you can tell Epic I to use the original full quality files with the click of a button and export full quality.

You can get more info and try a demo of Epic I at www.dvfilm.com/epic

Vegas should be able to handle the motion jpegs from the 5d. I also think the Sony Z7 records as hdv m2t which is not AVCHD so Vegas should be able to handle it without a problem.

Finish to DVD or Bluray through Vegas and/or DVD Architect. If you need an HD format file then finishing to DVCPRO HD quicktimes, Sony XDCAM, or AVID dxnhd are a few codecs to go to.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for reply.I am beginner in editing , and dont know enaugh.

I wanto to know will I be able to edit on Vegas 9 + Epic I,without difficualties, three diferent formats together.
They are :

.Mov-h.264 --1920-1080, 30fps - Cannon 5d
Mpeg2 -- 1440-1080, 25fps -Sony Z7 (right click in windows says AVDCH (.M2T))
mpeg2-- 1920-1080, 25 fps -- (its a just converted Cannon 5d file that I lost)

And If it is posible Id like to know, how to do it.
What project settings to use, if I have three diferent frames and resolution to use.
thanks zak

I’ve mixed ACHVD, MP4 (H264) and Jpegs (30FPS and 60PFS clips) all mixed tighter in Vegas 9 platinum with no problems.

I’ve never used Epic, never even heard about before now. If the clips are shot Vegas can usually handle it. Worst case was I used proxy files for the long MP4 (H264) clips.

The only way for sure to know if Vegas is right for you is to try it. Download the trial version and give it a spin. http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/trials/vegaspro

You will be able to edit with all of those clip type in Vegas and Epic I without a problem; however, you frame rates won't match.

Since the 5d is 30p footage and your other two formats are 25p, Vegas will have to be set to either 30p or 25p at 1920x1080 probably depending on which footage you have the most of. Either way Vegas will have to do a frame conversion to match the different frame rates. This most likely will be a problem and causing ghosting or stuttering.

There should be a preset for the 25p 1920x1080, but if it's the old 5d that shoots exactly 30p, you'll set the custom frame rate to exactly 30 fps by manually typing that in.

The 1440x1080 clips should come into Vegas as 1.33 aspect ratio which will make them 16x9 and fit into the 1920x1080 frame. If the 1440x1080 is not set to 1.33 aspect ratio, you can do this by right clicking on a clip and going to clip properties. There should be an option to change it there.

Best,
Andy
