Can Premiere CS5 use luts?

Can Premiere CS5 use LUTS? The question is in the title. Our production company uses Premiere CS5. We recently used the 4k XAVC-I codec from Sony whick we used in slog3 with a 709 LUT as reference. Is there a way go apply that LUT in Premiere CS5 ?

First of all, no. I don't think the LUTs are compatible.

Why in the world does a production company use 8-year old NLE software?
Second, there is nothing wrong with still using CS5 if it gets the job done. I have been using the CS5.5 Master Collection since 2011 and it continues to serve me well. I paid just shy of a grand to upgrade to CS5.5 and I own it. Why should someone introduce unnecessary monthly overhead if they don't have to? That's just bad business. If it is holding you back then you consider it.

Granted, I am still shooting on a DVX100b but that's besides the point.

Just kidding. I went from the DVX to an HVX200 then a pair of GH2s, a pair of GH4s and now a GH5. I sometimes feel like some things would be easier if I converted to CC, but at this point it isn't justified.

What are you paying monthly/ annually to use CC?

Just my opinion but if you have a production company that runs 8-year-old NLE software because you don't want to spend a few hundred dollars a year or $299 for Resolve then that is what I think bad business.

But I suppose we have to agree to disagree on this one.

I find ot amazing how people are unable to stick to the subject. The question was "Can I use LUTS in CS5". Whether I should be using CS5 or not is irrelevant. I did not ask about my business of about what I should do with it. The question was purely technical. There are too many people on these DVX forums who are simply incapable to stick to the topic and who feel they need to second guess the question. Just answer the question or do not respond. But stop wasting time wirh off topic morality lessons nobody asked for. Back to the topic: Can you use LUTS in Premiere CS5?

Indeed, the trend of jumping on people with our 'wisdom' or snarky remarks should stop. Not just here, but on Twitter and everywhere else. I'm really surprised to see it from Ironfilm, who is usually a very helpful professional.

I love to respond sarcastically to certain types of posts and have done so many times here. I'm the pot calling the kettle black. But really, we have got to be more mentoring, educating, sharing, and partnering. There are so many different levels of production and skill represented on this site. We should respect them all and encourage them all. I have bit my tongue many times to tone down my useless remarks on this site. I haven't conquered my urges, but I think I am getting better.

Lecture over - be sure to jump on me the next time I make a sarcastic remark.

morality lessons
It is not about morality.

If you have a video production business it is bad business to use 8-year-old NLE software, software that is no longer supported and that does not meet the present day video processing requirements.

Apparently rather than appreciating the advice you wish to criticise it, so be it, I think the advice is valid.

Maybe using the old Red Giant plugin LUT Buddy? I still have CS5 on one of my workstations but have never successfully applied any LUTs. From what I've read, maybe you can't??

BTW I still like CS5 and it's does what I need on that workstation plus once you've got plugins and specific hardware committed and working good it makes sense to stay. Using Adobe since the 90s but won't do CC.

If I mentioned I still have the original Creative Suite (CS2) and also CS4 on my oldest workstation I'd probably really start a thread de-rail. Ooops. Did I type that out loud? :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

My God it never stops. Now I have to justify myself before people will stick to the question. So be it. The reason we use CS5 is multifold. (1) because we have many plug ins which would have to be updated as well if we went with CC (2) Because our current setup works and is rock stable (3) Because we dont like the way Abobe is handling its affairs with the CC rental policy (4) Because we have multiple workstations, all of which would have to be upgraded (5) Because we would have to pay not just for multiple Premieres but also for multiple suites including the plug ins (6) Because resolving the technical issues would take an undefined time (7) Because CS5 is backward compatible with all our previous work and plug ins (8) Because we are used to CS5 and can use it with our eyes closed (9) Because we are not sheep who upgrade just because some DVXUsers think we dont know what we're doing. Now back to the topic: Can one use LUTS in CS5? Thank you.

I don't think it's possible without Lumetri, which came after CS5.

Hopefully someone will confirm for you.

You can use After Effects CS5 though (if possible/interested).

Guys, just answer his questions. It does not matter why he uses CS5. His question is about CS5.

I disagree. It does matter.
This is a forum where more than the OP are going to read the replies and get value from the advice given. It's too bad if someone doesn't like it when they don't get the precise answer they expected. Is he paying for this advice? No. So skimming through some replies he doesn't want to hear is the small price he pays for having fellow professionals take valuable time to try to help. Whether he finds value in the advice to upgrade his software or not is irrelavent because OTHER people may read the advice and realize how foolish it is to hang on to software that is 8 years out of date. There very fact that he started this thread proves the point.

I repeat my question . . . how is he able to edit 4K XAVC-I in Premiere CS5? If the answer is that he has to transcode, then it just further illustrates what a dumb business decision it is to hold onto old software. But maybe that is not the case, maybe he has some method of editing native 4K XAVC in CS5. If that is the case then I'd very much like to learn about it.

Doug since you don't know about Rovi Total Code, perhaps you should butt out of this discussion as you are clearly not qualified to give useful advice on this subject.
Buying a $350 product to support something all modern NLE's already support.......okay!

It is clear some people just don't want to hear good advice.

Even though I'm personally always on the bleeding-edge, he actually had some very valid reasons for not upgrading. Makes perfect sense and would be a major PITA.

Some individuals edit their wedding movies in iMovie and make $100K plus...there's no correct formula for success and you do what's best for you.

The same applies to still using 10+ year HD cameras.

I just asked you a simple question. Is Rovi Total Code your answer?
I don't know why anyone would bother to try to help someone with your attitude on this and other threads. Now I will be happy to butt out.
