Can normal cameras See IR Light?

Videocameras normally have an IR filter in place to eliminate IR light. Sometimes a camera will have a "nightshot" mode which removes the IR filter and makes it capable of seeing IR, but for daylight footage you can't have that, the IR totally messes everything up so the cameras filter it out.

Thanks Barry, This might sound a little odd, but does anyone know what wavelength it blocks on the spectrum? Would that be different for every camera?

I'm not exactly sure about the wavelength, but cameras can see the IR light emitted by television remote controls, so it's not blocking everything.

It's true, though it appears as pretty close to pure red, so it's probably not far outside the spectrum.

Not sure how far outside the other end of the spectrum a typical camera can see.
