can i use my old sony camera as a deck?

My new DVX is in the mail as I speak (I can't wait!)

I have a Sony TRV17 camera i've used extensively for three years, as my only camera and as a deck. It still works perfectly--I don't get dropout, no jammed tapes (it doesn't make sense...)

Anyway, I'd use this camera as the deck for the DVX, but if I put my nice MQ tapes in the Sony then put them back on the DVX, is that just as bad as putting cheap tapes in the DVX in the first place? Or will I be OK.

I've taken care of the Sony, but I've only ever used cleaning tapes. I use Sony tapes for the most part.

At some point i'll probably get another comparable Sony camera (I do lots of live performace taping and need 3 cameras) and I could use MQ tapes exclusively in it, but that camera is a ways off. A deck is also out of the question for now.

Thanks for any help...

I'm probably going to be doing something similar for temp work. Suggestion would be to clean the heads with head cleaning cassette. Probably best to avoid switching the tapes back and forth. With the cheap price of a tape it's probably worth it to just get a new tape every shoot day rather than adding on to your existing tape.
