I d like to use video files of HD res, 1080i or 720p in my AE6.5. I can render em outta Vegas as AVI or MPEG2 . But when i try to import em into AE6.5 the AE freezes. Guess it cant handle the HD yet, ir can it? Can anyone plz shed some lite on my troubles?
Thank you all.

After Effects can handle full Cineon plates all the way up to 4k. It sounds like it's computer that can't handle them. Make sure all programs are closed when you open AE, and I would export them out of Vegas as an image sequence, maybe tiff's or png's, and then import into AE.

If you're still having trouble, more RAM always help. Also, if it is stubborn just loading the files, you may want to work with proxies instead, then just render out on the full rez files.

This is probably the best method, regardless. I find myself doing it more and more for even DV footage. Really speeds things up.

good one one

If you are using windows, MAKE SURE YOUR SWAPFILE CAN BECOME 4+ GIGS!

Generally the "let windows manage my swap file" is the best option. After Effects will just QUIT with no warning if you run out of memory. Working with HD files is certain to do so.

I wouldn't reccomend editing mpeg files in anything less than AFX 7. AFX 7 seems to handle the mpeg-2 imported from HDV cameras, but dont do anything big, or longer than 30 clips of HDV compositied in one composition.
