Can I use a Cloudlifter with my MKH 416?

Currently, my ZOOM H6 gets WAY too noisy past the 7 notch mark on the gain dial.

Up till 1-6, it's great! But once it hits 7 and above, it gets so darn noisy it's almost unusable.

Would getting the Cloudlifter, plugging it into my MKH 416 and ZOOM H6 work? Or would it not be compatible?

Thank you for reading.

The cloudlifters are powered by the phantom power. Now I might be wrong, but I don't think it let's the current through to the mic, so you would have to use a phantom box between it and the microphone. Seems like a bulky solution compared to just buying a better preamp/mixer.

Have you explored the possibility of a malfunctioning mic/cable/recorder. I have no experience with the H6. Budget recorders/pre amps in general don't have much 'clean gain'.

Darn, that's dissapointing.

So it looks like I'll have to get a preamp for it. What's a good preamp that can plug directly into my H6 with 1 or 2 channels?

Since you have a Sound Devices recorder at your disposal, use it, or pick up a complementary Sound Devices unit to feed your H6.

Took awhile to track that one down. But in context I think he was talking about the company he works for gear, so maybe the Zoom is what he actually owns. Though I could be misreading it.
