Hi,
I just bought the DVX100A. I shoot surf films and I cant get enough reach with a doubler. Is there a way I can use a c mount screw mount adapter to use a 16mm telephoto lens? thanks a lot.

Nope.  The circle of illumination in a 16mm lens is microscopically too small for the DVX.

The only options you have are the Century Precision Optics 1.6x teleconverter (about $850 or so), or someone else on this board posted photos of a 3x teleconverter (I think it might have been a Canon?)  Softened the image quite a bit, but there was a lot of magnification.

Re: can i use a adapter to put a 16mm lens on the

the reason i asked this was because i saw a guy using a 16mm telephoto with a c mount adapter on a vx 2000 and he said it worked fine. I don't really know too much, but I do need more reach than a doubler can give me. If anyone knows a way to use a c mount adapter on the DVX with a telephoto lens of some sort please let me know. thanks.

It can't possibly work. I've got more c-mount lenses and adapters than I know what to do with. There's no way a 16mm movie lens is going to work with a DVX.

Perhaps that guy was using 35mm lenses, with the mini35?

i understand what you are saying but i am positive he was not using the mini35 adapter. He was using a skinny long 16mm or 35mm lens with a c mount adapter. Is it possible to put a 35mm still camera lens on a DVX with the right adapter. I just need the reach, I dont care about auto focus or any of that stuff, just the reach. thanks a lot. not meaning to be a pain in the ass.

The thing is, a c-mount adapter means that it adapts some type of lens to become c-mount. c-mount lenses have a rear diameter of 25mm. That's about the diameter of a quarter.

Now, take a look at your DVX lens, and then take a look at a quarter. They don't match up.

I've got an M42->c-mount adapter here, which would let me mount a Pentax Screwmount lens on a 16mm c-mount camera, which I've done many times. The 16mm frame is small enough that the 25mm diameter of the c-mount covers it just fine.

But with the DVX, you're talking about covering the front of the lens, not the chip! Even with the homemade mini35 devices people are trying to construct, they're having to use +17 macro diopters just to try to get a the DVX to fill the screen with a 35mm film frame. A 16mm film frame is 1/4 that size, so you'd need something like four or five +10 macro diopters.

I don't mean to be difficult, but I'm telling ya, there's no way a c-mount adapter would have any usefulness with a DVX. It's way too tiny. It's the diameter of a quarter!

So I would be very interested to hear what this guy was using... but I can guarantee you it wasn't a c-mount adapter (unless he's referring to something else by that name, because in cinematography the c-mount is a 25mm diameter lens mount, used on older 16mm cameras like the Auricon, CP16/A, Filmo, etc.)

is there anyway that you have heard of or know of to make a homade mini35. I ask this because I am always traveling and cant spend the money to buy or rent one just because my travel times are too long and I don't have 10 grand to buy one. anyone have any ideas or answers? thanks

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of posts on this subject over at dvinfo.net, and a long thread here. Short answer is, they've made something work to some degree on small cameras, but I don't think anyone has succeeded in making one work with a DVX yet.
