I don't knowif you have Premiere as well as After Effects, but Premiere ships with a free basic steady move plug-in.

Yeah, but that sucker takes forever to render. Argh.

Re: can I smooth out camera bounce?

AE 6.0 and 6.5 comes with a quite acceptable motion tracker (that is way beyyond ol'crappy 5.5), rendering times are acceptable (considering it analyse each frame/field with a subpixel precision) The tracker is pretty accurate but you will need adjustments along your shots... as usual, all infos about the tracker can be found in the manual & help files ;D

A Tip i learnt from 4.5 to 5.5 days and still sometime use when i dont have any good tracking points is:
1) selecting a frame that is representative of the framing i want
2) export it to Photoshop
3) in PS draw on a second layer a decal of the main lines i can use as reference
4) In AE use thoses references to align each frame

The drawing could be done in AE of course but doing it in PS avoid unnecessary rendering. The all process is quite time consuming and boring but gives great results.

The (eternal) problem is that stabilizing, especially vrey shaky shots, will make you zoom into your images to fill the blanks it will live UP/DOWN & RIGHT/LEFT

Isn't the motion tracker limited to the Pro version? I've got it, but I'm not sure if Lloyd, who asked the original question, does.
