Can I run 5.04 on MBP?

Just as the title states... could this do damage to the new mac book pro?

I've read a few places that people ARE doing it, and seems that the only problem is that sometimes the machine can't find the deck.

Anyone have any experience with this, or should I just wait for my crossgrade?

I ran 5.0.4 on my Macbook Pro Core Duo while waiting for crossgrade. It was the first thing installed on my machine. Ran just fine did everything i needed to do, even captured . All SD though, didnt bother with HD on it.

Im on Core 2 Duo MBP now havnt tried 5.0.4 on it, but how could it damage it?

Any Pre-5.1 copy of FCP runs in Rosetta on an Intel Mac. Rosetta being a G5 CPU emulator. Apps have been reported by many, many users to run much slower. For example, some usres are finding that Photoshop (which runs in Rosetta until Adobe updates it for Intel Macs) is dog slow compared to running on a G4 or G5. Some users are using it with pre-5.1 FCP copies fine with small projects. But it has been shown to be very unstable and unreliable.

Apple officially does not support pre 5.1 FCP on Intel Macs.

I can't tell you how many folks contact me with, "FCP 5.0 was running fine for weeks on my MBP until today, now it's all screwed up, what do I do?" The only fix is to upgrade to 5.1. I used to get this a lot.

Do the cross-grade, run native Intel, be stable, not to mention all the added features that the latest updates to 5.1 have added. Very worth the upgrade price.

Bottom line, I won't offer any advice on running a pre-5.1 copy of FCP on an Intel Mac aside from, UPGRADE. Because there is no other advice to give.
 
The non-intel versions are noticeably slower on a MBP. I seem to recall Motion wouldn't load at all. The upgrade is what you want- get to the latest version if you have an intel machine.
