Yea, but it wont be synced I don't think. I can only speak of my experience with final cut pro, last time I used express was maybe 5 years ago with version 1... ah, the old days...
Assuming the capture setup is the same, you plug in the dvx to the firewire cable connect it to your machine. Go to log and capture, then click on capture now, you should be recording what your camera sees. Then press record on the camera to roll tape. Escape to end the capture.
Also check your preferences; if the machine drops frames you may lose the whole take. Be sure your HDD you record to has the space on it for what you are shooting. HDDs lose their efficiency when they get I think 80-90% full.
