I just bought a 5k senior solarspot (Mole Richardson) 120v 41.5 amps on ebay. Im about to buy a generator to power it. I was looking at a 15k Centurion portable generator. Its runs 120v with about 100 amps. The problem is the 5k is a mole richardson (mc258g) plug and the generator has nema sockets i think either 50 or 60 amp. Does anyone know of an adapter 60 amp nema to mole richardson? Or a nema distro box with mole sockets? or can i just change the wireing on the 5k to a nema plug? or is it just not posable? im lost....

Maybe its best to get an electrician to look at the issues involved. An adapter of some sort is definitely what you need because if you change the generator in any way you risk making it a safety hazard and at the very least you invalidate the warranty on this expensive piece of equipment. Just find an electrician who's knowledgeable in stage/studio lighting issues and he'll be the most likely to be able to help you.

Richard is right. It really should be a very simple issue to make an adapter for whatever plugs you wish to use, but if you even need to ask this question on a forum you shouldn't be doing it yourself. Find a local gaffer or film eklectrician and they can probably do it in their sleep.

I would get professional advice about the generator as well though. Do you know how big, heavy & loud it will be? Do you know how to keep the voltage uniform and keep the loads balanced?

Thanks Richard and Lenny!
I definitely plan to get a pro gaffer to do any configuring or altering electrically. That is what I really need. I was just wondering if there was any kind of adapter out there that already exists, if not I would like to know what i would need to ask a pro gaffer for. Im guessing from the last two posts i need a gaffer to make me an adapter.

I do know that the generator is 450 lb 79.1 sound decibels. As for keeping the voltage and the loads a constant i have no clue im guessing by saying running and adapter to a distro box to the lights? this brings me back to is what im trying to do even possable?

I think so but finding a knowledgeable gaffer thats done it is best. 2nd best is just finding a normal electrician that understands these issues involved with what the specifics of the adapter should be
