Can I convert 24F or 60i to 25F/25P?

There's something about the look of PAL that I really like, and I'd like to see if I can replicate it without having to invest in a $500 upgrade. Can this be done by Vegas, and if so, how well?

Of course, assuming I get the look I want, will I be able to view it on my computer or DVD player/television?

HD isn't really PAL or NTSC except in terms of frame rate, which is only a 4% difference. Resolution, color, etc., are all identical.

So, if you're saying you like the look of PAL when comparing SD PAL and SD NTSC, you may be looking at factors which don't apply to HD.

Hmmm...I guess I could experiment a bit and see if I like the results. If anyone else be interested in seeing what I come up with I'd be happy to post some of my findings.

I have a client that needs 25p, whats the best what I can deliver with my 24p HVX (US version)???? Please share. THANKS!

Can some tell me what the difference is in the look of the final product when 60i is rendered to 24p as apposed to shot at 24p....

Thanks....Bob

The best thing you can do on that one is to shoot some 60i footage and render it out to 24p and see for yourself. Vegas does a fantastic job with de-interlacing, especially when there's little movement in a scene. Keep in mind that with the more movement you have, the more motion blur you'll get in the finished product. You might try shooting a sequence where there's a little movement (actor waving at the camera or wiggling his fingers) and then increase it continuously until the actor is jumping up and down or doing cartwheels or something. Just try what works best for you and see how it looks.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the reply...I guess what I am most worried about is I just completed a partial shoot for a music video and the DP handed me the tapes and I found them to shot in the 60i mode. I am partly to blame for not making this clear to him that I wanted 24p. It is a slow ballad so not much jumping around, but concerned about the overall look to the video. Looking at another thread, they stated a loss in vertical resolution of 37% if rendered at 24p. If rendered at 60i , does the final product look more like TV video or Filmlike?.

Thanks. Bob

60i rendered to 60i will still look like video. I would try rendering a small clip from the tapes to 24p (on a 23.976 timeline) and see how it looks to you. After that, if you like it, try editing and rendering the whole thing that way and see how that looks to you.

Keep us posted. :)
