Can I at least get an email explaining WHY you locked my thread oh great DVX mod god

So we aren't grown up enough to judge a film on it's merits, even if it has political underpinnings? Can't we discuss the technique without the content?

If I say that Triumph of the Will is an effective piece of political propaganda, will that be too much for this site?

We could have given the discussion a chance....jeez

No we are not and yes we have tried in the past. Come on guy's. What do you think ?

You actually think we can discuss politics civily? Some of us can but some cannot and even further, some will come in and go into mental breakdown with the poo pooe spilling into other threads.

You know it. I know it. Period. This is not a forum for politics. I wish we could talk about it for I know there are members here that can stay cool, but there are some nut jobs on this board as well that guarantee a nuclear situation. (You know who you are you friggin kooks)

Jesus, we can't even talk about the HVX without some whacko having a nut job and accusing us of being evil agents of panasonic.

There are only four real rules here on DVXUser. Mainly the forbidden topics are the three P's: no discussing Pornography, Politics, or engaging in Personal Attacks.

The fourth rule is kind of subjective, but Hudson would probably put it like this: don't act like an poopoopoopoopoopoo.

I understand all that. I've seen this place go into a meltdown more than once. It's just very discouraging to think that if I ever made a film that had political references, I wouldn't be able to bring it here for a discussion about it as a film. I respect the opinions here. I can discuss a film about something I disagree with on the level of filmmaking without discussing whether I can agree with the message.

For example, if the guy could have done a better job on the sound for an interview he did, maybe somebody can tell him how to improve it. Or if he could have used an ND filter on some shots during a rally to keep everything from gettting blown out, that might be of help to him in the future.

I'm not naive enough to believe it wouldn't ever degenerate into a political discussion. I'm just saying that BEFORE it got too far and the thread had to be locked he might learn a few tips on filmmaking that are specific to what he did.

Locking the thread so quickly seems to be the easy way out, IMHO. It was locked on what might have happened instead of what did happen.

On any site that even flirts with politics it doesn't usually start out with an all-out flame fest. It's usually a subtle discussion that leads right up to everybody hating each other.

I think the point of the political controls on this site is to keep the spirit of the forum high and the number of grudges low.

The problem with allowing political video for sake of technical analysis is people with an agenda would just have another way to soapbox the same point anyway.

:grin: I was trying to decide whether to post that last reply... I guess I better add for the ironically challenged... that was a joke. Horse you've got me so punchy from that show host that I'm ruined for the rest of the day! Everybody's going to think I have laughing turrets.
 
I was with ya, Matt. I don't get into political debates with people I don't like. I would never get into it with the friends I have here.:thumbsup:

rgd, the fact that politics is a verboten topic on this board is not new, nor is it a secret. In fact, it's kind of legendary. Check the guidelines posted at the top of every section.

I didn't close your thread, either, but I would have in a heartbeat, especially considering the tagline you put with it.

We're not here to give anyone a soapbox.
