Can HTML do this?

Another 'Help me with web design' post...

I'm not a web guy, but I'm trying to help out a girl for her site...

http://bloomshoppe.com/index2.html

What I want to do is write text in a table cell with a colored background JUST in that cell...is that possible? For instance, if you look on that page above, at the top right had part of the page, in the gray-green area above the big pic of the flowers there is a table cell where I'd like some text to be, but I want it to be over that color. Am I making any sense? Can HTML do this?

Thanks for any help!

Yes, just set the bgcolor of the td accordingly:

HTML:
<table width="200" border="1" cellspacing="4" cellpadding="4">
  <tr>
    <td bgcolor="#FFFF00">Text</td>
    <td bgcolor="#00FFFF">Text</td>
  </tr>
  <tr>
    <td bgcolor="#FF0000">Text</td>
    <td bgcolor="#00CC00">Text</td>
  </tr>
</table>
You can also set an image as the background of a cell:

HTML:
<td background="image.jpg">Text</td>

You slice out the flat colors and optimize them through imageready. I usually save out the flat solid colors as .gifs and then save any images as .jepgs.
Saving the flat colors as gifs allows you to save them as a one color file making it REALLY tiny.

You slice them in photoshop with the slice tool and then when you export to web, imageready opens and then you click on each slice and on the right you will see the saving options. If you select .gif you will see a color chart with the maximum amount of colors. You then can change it to like 64 colors and see how it looks on gradients and stuff where the color changes fast. On the flat colors save it with one or two colors as long as it doen't band it. If it bands then the colors isn't truly a solid color.
