Can anyone recommend a speech to text program

The catch with that is you then need to get it translated. Court reporters don't type "english" but in a phonetic character set.

Yes, but what they have is a personal translator that does produce 'human readable' English...

The Wife is hard of hearing, and we have found the 'reporter' using a machine, with attendant translator, is far superior to the 'talk to speech recognition software. She's had both types, and the voice version has to re-speak the words, because that's whose voice the software has been trained for. For some reason it seems 'better' path way is 'ear, brain, fingers', than 'ear, brain, mouth'... The other issue which would not impact 'off-line' processing, is that the speaking version is a bit 'annoying' for those around the interpreter. (As a note the Wife was never taught signing, which had the benefit of 'mainstreaming' but now has the unfortunate consequence that as her hearing fades even more, she is even more in isolation... because most programs, if they have a deaf/hardofhearing interpreter, are of the signing variety... rather than the 'real time captioning' variety...)

The 'real time' captioning used for news and such events, is based on the same type of principle.
