Can anyone recommend a Mole-Richardson tungsten softlight?

I was thinking of adding a 650w or 750w Mole tungsten softlight to my Baby 1K and Midget for a good, used, 3-point practice narrative kit in a small apartment setting. I've seen a lot of these softlights on eBay at really good prices recently, but I haven't seen many recommendations for them on this board. Most people tend to recommend getting a 1K Molepar (very hard to track down used) or Mickey Mole coupled with a diffuser. I'm wondering why that is; why the apparent aversion to these softlights?

I'm no gaffer but... They're hot and heavy and expensive. Move on to florescent or LCD. KINO with a scrim much nicer light.

Great choice, I mostly stick to moles myself, real workhorses! Why not use a silk? If you must there is a 2k soft you might find used but they run off bates plugs I believe. You're most likely best off with a silk

I guess that's what most people are doing these days. I could see how having one can come in handy when shooting outdoors as well. Maybe a Cool Light; Kino is a bit out of my budget range.

I should add that I'm on a DSLR in a mid sized apartment with a 1K as my fill and a 1K broad for ambient--I don't know if I'll need to go all the way up to a 2K soft.

Yeah the 2k was mostly me throwing it out there, I wouldn't bother on a DSLR. Especially trying to power it with a 1k already on the circuit! I'd stick to a nice large silk. If you get too much spill duve or flag the sides and create a softbox. I just used a 4x4 indoors to bounce a few tweenies for daylight and it worked great. Kinos are great but I personally prefer diffusing a hot light. Just my preference, I know some people swear by kinos but I really only drag them out for talking heads or office scenes where you'd already expect flo lights. I feel like they have a very distinct look that demands when they should be used. Then again on a DSLR it might not be a bad idea!

Thanks! I think I'll keep looking for that Molepar used, or maybe I'll just get a Mickey now.
