Can a flash be used to fill in the scene with Arri 650w key light?

Shooting portraits in studio, I want to have my Arri 650W be a key light for the models face. Assuming I want a cooler background and warm face, and I want to lift the shadows, could I use my AlienBee 400 to bounce off a wall for fill and my Arri for the face? I am also curious on what you guys think the flash will do to the quality of the light coming from the Arri that hits the face?

Vague example of what im going for (except ill be in a studio)
Another example

Really want a warm chiaroscuro/vermeer effect,

If you are shooting color you can either add some CTO to your Alien Bees or some CTB to your fresnel. I would be inclined to add the CTO and crank the power up on the strobe as needed. Nice light from the Arris fresnel, classic contrasty lighting from the early film days.

I think I may leave the flash ungelled since I want the fill of the scene to be pretty cold and the keylight to be super warm. I am more interested in knowing if flash can be used to lift shadows without overpowering the 650w key light..

If your flash head has variable power or if you have some ND gels, sure, why not?
