Cammer settings, filters, or post

Groupthink

I'm shooting a stylized short and would like to get some opinions on when to best implement things that will help me obtain the color tone/contrast I want(assume it will be lit well). How much should I do in camera, how much should I get the look through filters, or should I just use magic bullet and the likes in post. Will the image quality be better if I do it on the front end, instead of potentially degrading my image in post? Or shoot it "flat" and find my look in post. Should I do one approach for contrast, the other for color?

Any suggestions?

Barry Green's book would be able to answer a lot about that, but I'm still saving (since I live in South Africa, it becomes more expensive in our currency).

I would suggest to make sure that your lighting is very good, that way you have a lot of options in post. But lighting you can't fix in post (The whole four point lighting thing I mean).

Thanks
